Course Overview
This training course offers participants a comprehensive understanding of inclusive education practices. It covers modules on a wide array of topics, including child development and neurodivergence, speech and language, fine motor skills and sensory processing, behaviour management, IEP development and monitoring, social-emotional learning, as well as strategies for building numeracy and literacy skills.

What will participants learn?
Module 1: Child Development
- Develop a clear conceptual understanding of theories related to children’s cognitive and social-emotional development.
- Identify red flags for specific neurodevelopmental disorders as well as related academic and social-emotional challenges.
Module 2: Speech and Language Skills
- Develop a conceptual understanding of speech and language development and related disorders.
- Apply practical strategies to help manage both speech and language difficulties in the classroom.
Module 3: Occupational Skills
- Develop a foundational understanding of occupational therapy’s key concepts, including sensory processing and motor skill development.
- Apply strategies to manage sensory processing challenges as well as meltdowns.
Module 4: Individualized Educational Plan (IEP)
- Learn about the key components of, develop, and monitor an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP).
- Gain hands-on experience in writing grade-specific numeracy and literacy goals and objectives.
- Adapt teaching strategies and methods to support neurodivergent children based on those goals.
Module 5: Behaviour Management
- Gain foundational knowledge of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), including its history, core principles, and the ABC contingency framework.
- Learn how to conduct a functional behaviour assessment and implement a behavior intervention plan with emphasis on ethical practice, data-driven decision-making, and effective teaching strategies such as shaping and prompting while maintaining client dignity.
Module 6: Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)
- Understand the importance of SEL and how it contributes to students’ academic performance, learning, and development.
- Learn the core competencies of SEL — self-awareness, self-management, and social awareness — and apply evidence-based strategies.
